My family and I love it here: it’s a beautiful and serene arbotoreum (with a lot of historical and scientific value!) but importantly for us is a wonderful place to come with the kids. My children are 3 and 4 and we’ve been coming here since they were newborns. They both love the bird of prey and mammal centre (especially the wallabies!) The playground is brilliant, very well maintained and has some fab little woodland hidey-holes off it to explore. The staff are always fantastic, so welcoming and friendly; they are always keen to go the extra mile. They organise seasonal trails which are great for the kids and the Santa’s Grotto never disappoints. It’s beautiful any time of year and there’s loads to do: I can’t recommend it highly enough.
We arrived at Thorp Perrow aware of it's 'daffodil' fame' but WOW, on a sunny autumn day the tree and shrub colours were absolutely stunning. Such a tranquil walk around the beautiful grounds and through the woods (although maybe less tranquil at weekends). The tea room served very nice home made food at reasonable prices. At similar places you could quite easily pay the admission price to see either the gardens or the Mammals/Birds but at TP the admission covers both. Every aspect of the place was well cared for yet very good value for money. We'll be back in spring for the daff's!!!
We all would like to say a huge thank you for making our Hawk walk a fantastic afternoon. The walk was bought by us for my dads 80th birthday and he thoroughly enjoyed it as did all 5 of us that joined in the walk with him.A big thank you to Luke the handler of Harris Hawk Flint he was great. He gave us loads of info about Flint and the other birds at the centre and answered our questions. We would definitely recommend it to anyone. Have you ever thought of giving the Hawk walk handlers cards to give out as they are doing the walks because lots of people yesterday wondered what we were doing. Thanks again for helping to make my dad birthday day out a special day for him and the rest of us who tagged along.Linda.
Wednesday 18th October 2017, my group of friends from various WI's in the Teesside area visited Thorp Perrow, we spent an enjoyable day walking round the ground admiring the wonderful trees, and the very unusual Halloween decorations. We had a wonderful time watching the birds of prey display also visiting the animals. We finished off in the tea room of course to enjoy a lovely lunch which was delicious and such good value. Thank you to all the staff at Thorp Perrow for a wonderful day
“Forest Bathing” with curator, Faith. We had the pleasure to have been involved with this wonderful experience. Relaxing, thought provoking, enlightening and entertaining too. You’ve got to experience this, it is one for all age groups. As a male, in my late 40’s, I was accompanying my partner and her friend. I had no idea what My partner was getting me involved in, and I had to look it up online, still not much wiser and, if I’m honest, just a little sceptical. The session was so well explained by Faith, and without pressure we were invited and encouraged to experience this mindful sensory adventure with nature. One word - “Wow”!I left the session suprisied as to just how mentally de-stressed, and tension free, I actually felt. Totally enjoyable experience and one that everyone should have on their “to do” list.Thank you so much Faith.
